SHILLONG: Alleging the Khasi Hills Archery Sport Institute (KHASI) for illegally collecting funds and fraudulent counting of points in the daily archery competitions, the Hynñiewtrep Archery Bookies Social and Cultural Association (HABSCA) on Monday asked the State government to intervene so that bookies also will be able to take part in the competition.

Coming down hard on this alleged illegal collection of fund by the KHASI, HABSCA general secretary Denis Lyngdoh blamed the government for not checking on non-licensed bookies. “The government is busy in collecting taxes but it won’t listen to our grievances”, he said.

As per the documents attained through RTI, Lyngdoh said that KHASI has not been given any permission to collect fund amounting to Rs 10 up to Rs 20 daily form bookies even while mentioning that the same has been intimated to the Superintendent of Police who denied ever having given consent to KHASI to collect donations daily.

“This clearly indicates that the organization running the archery competition at Polo is a fraud and wants to suck the hard-earned sweat of the bookies,” Lyngdoh said while stating that the HABSCA is willing to donate to the coffer of KHASI provided it is allowed to participate in the competition.

While requesting all bookies not to pay the steward and field fees anymore to KHASI, unless HABSCA runs the competition in a transparent manner, said it will approach the government to intervene so that bookies also will be able to participate in the competition.
