SHILLONG: UDP leader Donkupar Roy on Tuesday said that Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, who finally cleared the files related to the appointment of teachers should step down owning moral responsibility.

As many as 246 teachers will lose jobs due to the faulty selection process of LP school teachers when Ampareen Lyngdoh was the Education Minister.

“The scam is no more an allegation now. The Minister has to take responsibility since she has approved the files related to the matter. In fact she should have stepped down long ago,” he said.

Both the CBI and the High Level Scrutiny Committee on the education scam found out irregularities in the appointment of teachers.

Speaking to reporters, Roy, who is also the former chief minster wanted to know what action would be taken against the concerned minister and the officials involved in the scam by the current Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

On the JHADC scam involving the CEM MD Rymbai, Roy said that police should take action based on the FIRs filed. The UDP will raise the issue in the Assembly, he added.
