Centre released Rs 520 cr for modernisation of Assam Police

Guwahati: The Centre has released Rs 520.21 crore since 2004 to modernise the Assam Police, the state Assembly was informed on Monday. In a written reply to a query by AGP MLA Utpal Dutta during the ongoing Budget session of the Assam Assembly, Forest and Environment Minister Rockybul Hussain said the amount was received between 2004 and 2013-14. “Out of the total amount, Rs 68.99 crore have been spent on purchasing of vehicles and Rs 92.49 crore were used for arms and ammunition,” Hussain said.  (PTI)

KLPLF chairman and general secretary arrested

Diphu (Assam): The Chairman and the General Secretary of Karbi Landless Peoples’ Force (KPLF), a new militant outfit active in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, were arrested today and huge quantity of arms and ammunitions were seized from their possession, police said. “A joint operation was launched by both police and the CRPF in Dilai and Mania areas in Bokajan police station and the duo was nabbed from Jiyadongh village,” Superintendent of Police Karbi Anglong Mugdhajyoti Mahanta said. The security forces also recovered two AK-56 rifles, ten magazines of AK-56, 255 live rounds of AK-56 ammunitions, a 7.65 mm pistol, four live rounds of ammunitions of 7.65 pistol, a .22 rifle, six live grenades, a magazine of 9 mm pistol, four buff plates, a mobile, some SIM cards, and a torch. 10 Nagaland cops hurt in road mishap

Kohima: A Nagaland Police bus carrying 10 police personnel met with an accident on Sunday at around 12 noon near Kiphire town, the district headquarters at the remote Indo- Myanmar border. According to an official report received here on Monday said all the occupants of the bus including the driver were injured and admitted to the District Hospital Kiphire where one of the injured is said to be in a serious condition. Three NCP MLAs disqualified from Nagaland Assembly

Kohima: More than two months after declaring merger with the Nagaland Unit of BJP, three NCP MLAs were disqualified from the state Assembly on Monday. Speaker Chotisuh Sazo ordered the disqualification of the three MLAs from the Assembly, state Assembly sources said. The three MLAs include then NCP state president Imtilemba Sangtam, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Dr T M Lotha and MLA Mmhonlumo Kikon. The three of them had declared merger with he BJP on June 16 and had claimed to have fulfilled all criteria under the Anti-Defection Law. However, the NCP Nagaland unit had written to the Speaker urging him not to accept the merger, but to disqualify the three defectors on grounds that no resolution had been passed by the NCP to merge with the BJP in Nagaland.
