Nagaland CM, HM condole accidental death of constable

Kohima:Nagaland Chief minister T R Zeliang has expressed deep pain at the ‘unfortunate’ death of C/N Moakumzuk Jamir of 3rd NAP Battalion of Mangmetong Village in an ‘accidental firing’ during the celebration of Lamsimngyi festival at Benreu Village of Peren district on Friday. In a message, Mr Zeliang said Moakumzuk Jamir was on his security escort duty at the time of the accident and said Moakumzuk Jamir’s death was a great loss not only to his family members, relatives and the Ao community but also the Nagaland Police. He said he on behalf of the government conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and prayed that God grants them solace at this hour of tragic and irreparable loss. Nagaland Home minister Y Patton has also conveyed his deepest condolence to the bereaved family members of late C/N. Moakumzuk Jamir. In a condolence message, Patton said it was unfortunate that the life of such a dynamic young man who was discharging his duties was cut short accidentally.Patton appealed to the bereaved family members to show ‘mercy and forgiveness’ and assured that the government would extend all possible help to the kith and kin of the departed soul. Documentary Film Festival in Kohima from Monday

Kohima:The first Kohima Documentary Film Festival, organised by the Guwahati-based Film & Cultural Society of North East in association with Indian Documentary Producers’ Association, and supported by Government of Nagaland, Polish Institute and Japan Foundation, will be held at the State Academy Hall from November 3 to 5. According to a statement today the event, first of its kind in the state, will see the screening of nearly 20 award winning national and international documentaries from all over the world. Filmmakers and resource persons will also participate in the three-day event in person and on Skype from countries like the US, the UK, The Netherland, Sri Lanka and India among others. Besides, creations of documentary film makers from Nagaland will be screened during the festival. An important part of the festival is a basic camera workshop by national award winning filmmaker Gautam Bora on November 5 at Kohima. The event is open to 60 participants on a first-come-first serve basis while entry to the film screening is free of cost. Jahnu Barua, winner of 12 national awards and scores of international awards for his creations, shall be present on the last day of the festival to interact with students, young film-makers and documentary enthusiasts.Each screening will be followed by interaction and discussion among participants, directors and invited experts. Three children charred to death

Guwahati:Two children of a village head and another child of his relative died of burn injuries when their house caught fire at Hojai in Nagaon district of Assam. “The three kids died in their sleep when their parents along with an infant went to a neighbour’s house,” Hojai Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Jyoti Ranjan Nath said. He said the children of Sanjib Ingleng, the head of Dakkhin Kandura village and the daughter of his relative were in the thatched house when the incident took place. The children have been identified as Somseng Ingleng (13), Dipong Ingleng (10) and Mili Rongpipi (6). Nath said when the parents returned, they found the house was totally burnt with the children inside.”As the village has very less population, so nobody noticed the fire or hear any cry of the children. We are not able to interrogate the parents as the mother lost consciousness due to the loss,” he said. (PTI)

Rajdhani delayed due to rail blockade

Jalpaiguri:The Rajdhani Express from Guwahati and some local trains were delayed for about 40 minutes at Khalaigram railway station in Jalpaiguri district due to a rail blockade by CPI(M) cadres today. The party workers put up the blockade demanding CBI enquiry into the unnatural death of a girl whose body was found on the rail track near the station on September 1, police officials said. Although Railway police claimed that it was a case of suicide, party workers alleged that she had been raped and murdered, they said. The Delhi-bound Rajdhani and other trains resumed journey after the blockade was lifted after about 40 minutes following persuation by both local and rail police force, they said. (PTI)
