GSU demands re- opening of Rongara SBI branch
TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) in Baghmara has urged SBI authorities to upgrade the services being provided by banks in the region.
In their memo submitted earlier to the Regional Manager of SBI, Tura Branch the union stated that it was high time to re-open the Rongara SBI Branch which has remained closed for the last many months allegedly due to militancy related reasons.
With the only bank in the vicinity going out of commission it said that the people were now forced to travel at least 35 kilometres from Rongara to Baghmara for any bank related matters with the distance being even greater for people from places like Mahadeo, Moheshkola etc. While it acknowledged the fragile law and order situation in the district, the union stated that the problems being faced by the common people due to the bank’s closure cannot be overlooked and suggested that the SBI seek help from the police and the District Administration to enable its peaceful functioning as before.
Pointing out that the two existing SBI ATM booths at Baghmara also being used by BSF personnel in large numbers was not enough to cater to the area’s entire population leading to shortage of money very quickly, the union proposed the setting up of two more ATM booths, one at Baghmara New Market under Bolsalgre locality and another at AOC junction under Bolsal A’ding locality of the town.
Further, stating that the population in the district had gone up 100 fold since the year 2010, it also proposed the opening of an additional branch at Baghmara New Market falling under Bolsalgre locality to ease the problems of customers.
