SHILLONG: The third phase of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) is likely to be rolled out in the next two months.
Speaking to media persons here, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the expected gap between the expiry of Phase II and the starting of Phase III is likely to be around two months.
The chief minister said Phase III of the state health cover may include all members of a family as the government is contemplating removal of the existing limit on family members.
Megha Health Insurance Scheme is a convergence of the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana and other schemes in the State. Sangma said the Centre is reviewing RSBY and they have asked all the states to discuss the matter with the Union government.
“Based on the outcome of the decision, Phase III of MHIS will be designed,” he said and added that the entire scheme is also being fine-tuned by the State government.
The chief minister said certain parameters are being incorporated in the new avatar of MHIS to make it sustainable. He also called for a mechanism that would insulate the scheme manipulation and help the poor.
Meanwhile, Sangma recently reviewed the status of the scheme with Health Minister Roshan Warjri and other officials of the Health and Family welfare scheme.
The policy period for MHIS II was from August 1, 2015, to July 31, 2016, and it was extended for three more months. The October 2013 electoral database was used for enrolment in the phase that had around 3.5 lakh beneficiaries. Claims generated from 71,532 households till September 30 amount to Rs 47.08 crore. The scheme covers 210 hospitals, including 109 primary health centres, 59 private hospitals both in and outside the State.
