SHILLONG: A surprise protest by members of FKJGP and HYC outside the Assembly premises on Friday prompted the East Khasi Hills district magistrate to impose Section 144, barring five or more persons from gathering within a radius of 500m of the temporary Assembly building at Rilbong.
This order came after FKJGP and HYC volunteers gathered outside the Assembly at Rilbong on Friday morning demanding the early setting up of Mawlai Block.
The pressure groups alleged that while the blocks under some  Congress MLAs were inaugurated in the past, there is undue delay in setting up of Mawlai Block.
The district magistrate has prohibited any person from obstructing vehicular movement in and around the Assembly premises.
The district administration also prohibited carrying arms, weapons or items that can cause injury to an individual.
Besides, the gathering of more than five persons within a radius of 100m of the Meghalaya Secretariat was also prohibited.
