SHILLONG: The secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong, Swami Achyuteshanandaji Maharaj said RK Mission is in the process of filing the petition towards renaming a road in the city as RK Mission Road as proposed by the Urban Affairs Minister, RV Lyngdoh during a recent program at the RK Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre.
He said the former president of RK Math and RK Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal, Srimat Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj was a jovial person and was always approachable despite his uncountable achievements.
Speaking on the occasion of the memorial meeting and special puja held at the RK Mission Ashrama, Shillong, in reverence of the president who passed away on June 18 at Kolkata, the secretary said that in his demise “we not only lost a fatherly figure but a model, who never allowed us to feel any pressure amidst difficult situations.”
The secretary further said that the president was a champion of the rural people for whom he dedicated his life. “He was instrumental in conducting several relief works in the country and abroad, especially in difficult places like Burma and others,” said Achyuteshananda Mj.
One of his biggest contributions was “Pollimongol” or upliftment of the rural womenfolks by way of rural employment generation and livelihood improvement.
On the other hand, the contentious issue regarding the historical house at Laban where Swami Vivekananda stayed during his 1901 visit, the secretary said that it is in a state of stalemate since one of the litigants is “untraceable”.
There are opinions that in such cases there is a provision to hear cases ex-parte since justice cannot be denied.
