SHILLONG: The grand alliance between UDP and HSPDP will announce their candidates for the 2018 Assembly elections next month.
UDP president Donkupar Roy said the party’s alliance with the Garo National Council has completed talks for 16 of the 24 seats in Garo Hills and in Khasi Hills, seat-sharing with partner HSPDP is nearing completion.
Roy did not rule out the possibility of friendly match of the two parties while fielding candidates.
The UDP president reiterated that they will invite KHNAM to join the alliance.
When asked if the newly floated PDF will also be invited in the alliance, he said it is not good if too many regional parties come together.
When asked about HS Shylla, who quit the party to join PDF, Roy said since there is no law to bind the MDC for floor crossing in the District Council, MDCs do whatever they like after winning the election.
“It is time that there should be a law to prevent them from floor crossing,” he added.
