SHILLONG: Several political leaders criticised the action of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma inaugurating the Garo Students’ Union, East Zone office at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills.
“It was very wrong for a politician to be involved as GSU relates to civic societies,” they said.
The local MLA and School Education and Literacy Minister Deborah Marak was also present at the opening of GSU office on Saturday.
HSPDP leader Ardent Basaiawmoit said, “It sounds strange to see a CM inaugurating the office of GSU. Any student body should be apolitical. It is not advisable for NGOs to be involved in politics.”
On the other hand, UDP leader Allantry Dkhar said that it does not go well with an NGO which has underlined the principle to remain apolitical.
