SHILLONG: The Campaign for Change (CFC) has been suspended temporarily with an eye on the state Assembly elections which is just about three months away.
CFC chairman Eleazer Chyne said the decision has been taken to prevent politicians from misusing the platform of the campaign during the run-up to the polls.
Informing that campaign has garnered positive feedback, he said, “In our campaign, we create awareness about farmers’ and unemployment issues as till date the state does not have an agricultural policy.”
The state, Chyne said, needs lawmakers as laws and policies usher in change.”We tell the people that the ultimate solution is to elect representatives who will bring about change and development by coming up with policies for the state,” he said.
Asked why they chose KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem to take part in the campaign, Jonah Kharir, another leader, said they had approached other politicians but there was no response whereas Syiem agreed to participate.
On the other hand, as part of its campaign, CFC will organise a panel discussion on the theme, ‘Law and policies in relation with overall development,” and an inter-college debate on the theme, “No hopeful future for the youths even after 45 years of statehood,” at the NEHU Community Centre on Friday.
