MAWKYRWAT: The Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) in Mawkyrwat received a major boost when a prominent BJP leader and his supporters joined the party to support Renikton L Tongkhar in the upcoming Assembly polls.
Drostarland Lyngdoh, a former president of BJP Mawkyrwat Mandal, was an active and popular leader in the region.
He was preparing himself to contest the 2018 Assembly Elections but joined HSPDP in a meeting here on November 18.
Members of 24 units and 10 sub-units of BJP from different villages under the constituency followed suit.
Lyngdoh and his supporters were welcomed by HSPDP candidate Tongkhar and other leaders during the meeting.
The former BJP leader said that he had to leave the party whom he had organised with the aim to contest the next elections because of differences with leaders in the party mandal.
He also said he and his supporters chose HSPDP because they wanted to oust the Congress from Mawkyrwat and the whole state in 2018.
The party, which is gaining strength in Mawkyrwat, expects that more leaders from other parties will come under its fold in the coming months.
