GUWAHATI: The meteorological office here has predicted improvement in weather in the region from Sunday, including Meghalaya, parts of which have bore the brunt of heavy rain and hailstorm in the past few days.
“The forecast for the North East in the next five days shows an improvement over the past few days,” Sunit Das, a scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Borjhar, told The Shillong Times on Saturday.
Hailstorms over the past few days have damaged property in West Khasi Hills, West and East Jaintia Hills and parts of East Khasi Hills. No casualties were reported till Saturday afternoon.
Thunder squalls accompanied by strong winds have hit parts of the North East over the past few days as well.
“The inclement weather was caused by an east-west trough from Bihar and extending to Manipur at the lower atmospheric level. Besides, a jet stream in the upper troposphere had passed through the northeastern region, resulting in the disturbance,” Das said.
