SHILLONG: The Election Commission met the CEOs of the poll-bound states in Bangalore for two days from Friday and discussed their poll preparedness.
State Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor was also part of the meeting, sources said.
According to sources, the Election Commission wanted early preparedness for the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
Sources added that the central election officials discussed the upcoming by- polls in Ranikor and South Tura and the date will be announced shortly.
September 6 is the deadline for the chief minister, a non-elected member, to get elected to the Assembly after he assumed office on March 6.
The maximum duration for any non- elected member to continue in a constitutional post is six months.
While the deadline is approaching for South Tura by-poll, there is time till December 21 to hold the Ranikor by-poll after the sitting legislator M M Danggo resigned on June 21.
