NRC at a glance

· The NRC update process was taken up following the SC order in 2013.
· The process differs from the rest of the country and is governed by Rule 4A and the corresponding Schedule of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003.
· The rules have been framed according to the cut-off date of March 24 (midnight), 1971, decided on the basis of the Assam Accord of 1985.
· Process of receipt of NRC forms started in May 2015 and ended on August 31, 2015.
· 3,29,91,384 members applied through 68.31 lakh applications.
· Verification of documents involved about 52,000 state officials.
· The part draft NRC was published on the midnight of December 31, 2017 with the names of 1.9crore applicants.
· The complete draft was published on July 30, 2018 with the names of 2,89,83,677 applicants.
· Persons who do not find their names in the complete draft NRC have the legal right to apply again by filing claims during August 30, 2018 and September 28, 2018.
· Objections and corrections may also be made and only after their disposal will the Final NRC be published.
· The budget for the NRC update exercise has been kept at Rs 1220 crore
