Woman gang raped in Assam

GUWAHATI: A woman was gang raped by a group of four miscreants at Amoni area of Nagaon district on Tuesday night and a case was registered in this regard in Samaguri police station of the district, according to Nagaon district Superintendent of Police, Sankarbrata Raichoudhury.
The police official informed that the woman was travelling on a motorcycle with her male companion from Amoni to Bhalukmari in Golaghat district when they were waylaid by a gang of four miscreants travelling in a Maruti Alto car.
The miscreants forcefully took the woman to a secluded placed and gang raped here. She was later recovered by the driver of an oil tanker operating on the highway and taken to nearby Jakhalabandha police station.
Teacher held in Manipur for raping student
A school teacher in Manipur was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a girl student, officials said.
Abujam Tombisana, a teacher of Little Master School at Samurou in Imphal West district, was arrested on the charge of raping the student, a resident of a girls’ hostel, on Tuesday night. Police have registered a case. Local residents said when the victim raised an alarm, the accused fled and surrendered at the police station. In a public meeting held on Wednesday, people demanded the death penalty for the teacher accused of rape. (With inputs from IANS)
