SHILLONG: UDP president Donkupar Roy said on Wednesday a close coordination between NPP and UDP will ensure victory for the allies in the Lok Sabha election.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Roy said without coordination, “winning the Lok Sabha polls will not be easy”.
Commenting on the Lok Sabha election, “It is confirmed that there will be a common candidate from UDP.” UDP has projected its general secretary Jemino Mawthoh as the common candidate for the party.
Asked if NPP will support the UDP common candidate, he said, “There are indications although there is no declaration on their part to support us.”
The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), which is also an ally in the MDA-led government, has projected Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar as the candidate from the party.
However, Roy said the best candidates will be chosen to contest as the common candidate from the MDA government who is set take on sitting Congress MP from Shillong Vincent Pala.
Downplaying threats to the government, Roy said, “We are committed to have a stable government.”
It may be mentioned the coordination committee of the MDA is yet to take a call on common candidate. However, Mawthoh has gone ahead and campaigned vigorously.
The BJP has decided to go alone in the LS polls for Tura and Shillong seat while NPP and PDF are yet to come out openly.
On the other hand, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement has projected former retired IFS officer, THS Bonney as its candidate for the LS election.
