Agartala: In order to strengthen security surveillance and policing against criminals, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb flagged off beat policing at Swami Vivekananda ground here on Monday.
As many as 261 motor bikes, including scooters, have been inducted in beat policing to keep close vigil across the state.
Altogether 247 Hero Super Splendors and 14 Honda Activa scooters were distributed across eight districts to facilitate police movement in real-time basis. This will help both male and female police to reach any spot and move in the village roads to provide security.
Each bike will be connected with the police headquarters, district headquarters and police stations for speedy exchange of information for acting against the criminals.
Addressing a gathering at the launch event, Deb said the new system of policing would ensure presence of policeman even in narrow roads where police vehicles cannot reach. They would not only keep surveillance over criminals and protect the citizens but also keep vigil on road safety.
Referring to metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, Deb said beat police has been successful in curbing crime on the streets and boosted citizens’ confidence, and added saying, “The overall crime rate in Tripura, including crime against women, has substantially reduced in one year but BJP-IPFT government is not happy at all, as we want to zero it down.”
While urging people to become law-abiding and help the government bring the system in order, Deb warned the police force to be more citizen-friendly and work in mission-mode.
He reminded that during left regime, government functioned completely in accordance with the wish of the party in power and as a result there was complete breakdown of governance, but the new government has been trying hard to put the system in place.
“There is no room for criminals in our party and anti-social activities. The government will continue to function for the well-being of common man and community interest. The government is extra sensitive to people’s cause and I am sure the government is moving in right direction,” Deb underlined. (UNI)
