Cops seize 5 kg cannabis, one held
Guwahati: Five kg of suspected cannabis was seized from a person at Guwahati railway station on Sunday, Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said. The apprehension was made during the checking of the stationary Rajdhani Express, they said. The GRP personnel seized the suspected cannabis, worth around Rs 40,000 in the grey market, from the possession of the person, who hails from Assam’s Jorhat district, the officials said. Legal formalities will be initiated and action will be taken against the apprehended person, the officials said. (PTI)
Cong opposes Hindi in North East
Imphal: The Congress has announced its opposition to the alleged imposition of Hindi in the Northeastern states. Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, Congress spokesperson, strongly condemned and opposed the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on imposing Hindi to each child of North East. “What is the response of the chief ministers of the North East to the decision by Union Home Ministry? What is the response of NEDA to such diktat that could subdue other major Indian languages and tribal dialects of the region?” People of the area have problems learning many languages as a tribal in Manipur has to learn his or her language, then Manipuri and English. Most of the CBSE schools have made Hindi and Sanskrit compulsory, thus, a child has to learn five languages, he added. (UNI)
Ayushman Bharat Pakhwara
Imphal: Health and Family Welfare Minister L. Jayantakumar Singh flagged off a rally as part of the observation of Ayushman Bharat Pakhwara here on Sunday at Kangla. The rally culminated at JNIMS, Poromopat. Jayantakumar said the rally was organised to celebrate the completion of one year of Ayushman Bharat which was initiated by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister. He said that such rally will help in highlighting the health schemes introduced by the government. The direction of health service and its system have been changed towards a new course he added. Health service is now no longer limited to the treatment or medication of a sick person. The new concept of health service includes well being of people. It aims to let the people live healthily and happily, he said. Many welfare schemes of the people have been covered under the new health policy of the government, he added. Jayantakumar said that the government has introduced many health schemes to maintain the hygiene of the people covering right from childhood to adulthood. District Early Intervention Centre, DEICs and Geriatric Centre have been opened at many hospitals including sub-divisional hospitals to provide health care and preventive care service to the people.
