MAWKYRWAT: The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) and National Pension Scheme (NPS)-Traders were launched on Saturday as part of the observation of the Pension Week in the programme organised by the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO), Mawkyrwat and office of Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Mawkyrwat at Community Hall.
Speaking on the occasion, LGM Kharmih, BDO, Ranikor C& RD Block said that PM-SYM and NPS-Traders schemes are mostly for unorganised sectors like rickshaw pullers, street vendors, mid-day meal workers, cobblers, rag-pickers, domestic workers, own account workers, agricultural workers, construction workers, leather workers, among others. He added that NPS is mostly for organised sector but now the government is giving an opportunity for unorganised sectors for their welfare. He urged people to avail the scheme for social security at old age or for the benefits of their children or nominee but they should avoid using unfair practices like increasing or decreasing age, enrolment with fake identity and requested people to avoid child labour.
Meanwhile, R Kharbihkhiew, BDO, Mawkyrwat C& RD Block said that each and every person or family needs safety and security. He added that people in organised sectors, like government, banking, organised company employees etc., get a fixed pay at the end of every month without problems.
Whereas, unorganised workers will not get paid when they are sick or not working, therefore, keeping in mind the welfare of people, the government is giving an opportunity for unorganised sectors to enjoy the benefits through PM-SYM and NPS-Traders schemes. “This is an initiative of the government to help farmers, daily wage earners, street hawkers, etc. so that people can live with dignity,” he added.
) S Kurbah, Labour Inspector, Mawkyrwat gave a brief note on PM-SYM NPS-Traders for old age protection and social security of unorganised workers and self-employed persons, and others.
He said that people could enjoy the benefits with pension up to Rs 3,000 per month if they contribute to the scheme.
He also informed that unorganised workers between 18 and 40 years, whose monthly income is Rs 15,000 or below, who are not engaged in the organised sector (membership of EPF/NPS/ESIC) or an income tax payer, and possess Aadhaar card, savings bank account/Jan Dhan account number with IFSC can avail the scheme.
