Police, BSF seize contraband

TURA: A joint operation by the BSF and Garo Hills Police has netted two contraband smugglers and seized 3,600 Yaba tablets used for substance abuse during a raid at Halchati area of Purakhasia along the international border early Friday morning.
“Based on credible inputs that two persons are smuggling contraband narcotic substances to Indo-Bangla border, the Police and BSF conducted a joint operation near Halchatti, under Purakhasia outpost.
“Accordingly, two persons were caught, arrested under NDPS Act, and from their possession, 18 pockets containing approx 3,600 Yaba tablets have been recovered,” informed West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, MGR Kumar.
The arrested smugglers have been identified as Md Nur Alam s/o Abdul Mojid and Md Soriful Islam s/o Abdul Sohid, both residents of Sadartila Kakripara Mankachar, Assam.
The arrested persons have been forwarded to court and further investigation and search is currently under way to nab the ring leader and remaining culprits of the smuggler gang, informed police.
