SHILLONG: The pensioners of the MeECL have urged the Chief Accounts Officer to immediately release the pending pensions within a reasonable period of time and have also asked the latter to justify the withholding of the pensions.
In a letter to the Chief Accounts Officer, the aggrieved pensioners rued that the disbursement of pension was delayed in many occasions during the lockdown
Even in case of revision of pay in 2015, the pensioners have not been fully paid their arrears till date, the letter said.
“Similarly, when the Dearness Allowances (DA) increased with effect from July 2019 and came in effect from January 2020, regular employees were paid w.e.f January 2020 itself while the pensioners were paid starting February 2020. Arrears amount, so involved, were not paid till to date,” the pensioners said.
Amidst the lockdown, the pensioners said that the pension due for June and July has been withheld without any prior intimation while the salary to the working employees of MeECL was released on time.
“If there is any issue or any reason arising out of life certificate or any other issues, it may be dealt with as individual cases and we cannot appreciate the withhold of pension to all the retired employees in general. If such cases exist, the persons concerned may please be intimated and the common pensioners should not be subjected to undue hardship and mental torture at this age,” the pensioners said.
