Postponement of GHADC poll inevitable

SHILLONG: Postponement of election to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) is now a certainty as the state government is all set to extend its term by another six months.
District Council Affairs Minister, Hamletson Dohling said here on Wednesday that such a decision was inevitable due to the COVID pandemic situation.
The Cabinet is expected to take up matter in its next meeting.
Earlier, the government had planned to conduct the elections  in October this year but due to the COVID-19 pandemic things have changed.
In this regard several MDCs had also met Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, seeking to postpone the upcoming election.
