JOWAI: The Hingaria Unit of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the Southern Border Youth Welfare Association (SBYWA) have urged the Health department to set up a sub-health centre in the area where over 3,000 people live sans proper road and network connectivity.
“People from Hingaria and its surrounding villages like Huroi, Lailong, besides others, have to walk around 35 kilometre to reach the nearest PHC (Bataw PHC) for medical treatment,” the organisations said in a letter to the Health department.
It also stated that several pregnant women have died while many have given birth en route to the nearest health centre. Many patients have to avail treatment from Bangladesh as it is nearer than the Bataw PHC or any other hospital in Meghalaya.
