TURA, June 29: The 4th teachers from Garo Hills, under the umbrella of All Meghalaya 4th Teachers’ Association, Garo Hills Unit, have expressed disappointment over the non-enhancement of their salaries.
In a statement, the Association also rued the disparity in salaries between the SSA teachers and the 4th teachers.
It said while the SSA teachers enjoy Rs 20,493 per month as their monthly salary, the 4th teachers are paid a salary of Rs 12,000.
It may be mentioned that various memorandums sent to the government earlier by the 4th teachers seeking pay raise have fallen on deaf ears.
“Last year, a delegation of the Association met Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui and he promised the delegation to take up the issue with the CM. The education minister himself assured to consider the demands of 4th Teachers but unfortunately they got the same amount of Rs 12,000 as their monthly salary this year,” the Association said.
They also bemoaned that the financial condition has been further aggravated during the COVID-19 pandemic with prices of essential commodities getting inflated.
Plea for salary release of Dadenggre SSA teachers
Meanwhile, the SSA schoolteachers from Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division in West Garo Hills have called for release of their salaries which have been pending for two months.
According to a statement issued here, the order for the release of two months’ salaries (March-April) has already been received and the salaries were disbursed to the respective district authorities or DMCs on May 25.
However, while SSA teachers from areas like Rongram, Tura and Dalu received their salaries a few weeks ago, the salaries of their counterparts from Dadenggre are yet to receive theirs.
“We urged the higher authorities to look into the matter. The problem must be solved permanently and with immediate effect,” they said.
