SHILLONG, Aug 29: National People’s Party (NPP) MLA from Raliang, Comingone Ymbon, has made it clear that the question of returning to his former party — Congress — does not arise.
“I had left the Congress to associate myself with the NPP. There is no looking back,” Comingone Ymbon told The Shillong Times on Sunday.
The NPP MLA from Raliang was reacting to the statement of the newly-elected Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Vincent H Pala, who said that he would try to bring back all the leaders who had deserted the party.
Earlier, there were reports indicating the possibility of Ymbon returning to the Congress after he was dropped from the Cabinet in favour of party MLA from Mawhati, Dasakhiatbha Lamare.
“My first priority will be to try and bring back the leaders who left the party. I will try to bring back the supporters as well,” Pala had commented earlier.
The MPCC chief also said that he had spoken with former Congress MLA PN Syiem who has agreed to return to the party. Pala had also said that he would reach out to former party leaders including RG Lyngdoh and Billykid Sangma.
Meanwhile, NPP national vice president and Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, said that did not want to comment on the claim of Pala that the Congress will return to power after the 2023 Assembly elections.
