SHILLONG, April 16: The BJP has asked of the people of Meghalaya to support the party stating that it is high time they do so. The party has made this call keeping the contentious Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the equation.
State BJP chief Ernest Mawrie, on Saturday, said the ILP issue will be in their election manifesto.
Enquired if he is promising ILP if BJP is voted to power, he said, “It will be part of manifesto, let people of the state examine it.”
He said the party will take up the long-pending issue of ILP again for discussion with its central leaders after April 20. “We have not communicated with central leaders. After April 20, when we meet central leaders, we will take it up for discussion again,” said Mawrie.
Reminding that the state Assembly had passed a resolution for implementation of ILP in the state on December 19, 2019, the BJP president said that the issue is still lying with the Centre, adding that there has not been much follow up.
Nearly three years down the line, the Centre is yet to speak a word on the demand despite ministers, MLAs and members of the pressure groups meeting Home Minister Amit Shah on several occasions.
