Ampati, Aug 26: At least 1800 voters from the district of South West Garo Hills (SWGH) on Friday registered themselves in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in an enrolment drive-cum-meeting that was held in the village of Bandalkona near Ampati in the district.
The drive was attended by TMC MLAs Zenith Sangma, Dikkanchi D Shira as well as Winnerson D Sangma along with MDCs Sadhiarani Sangma and Sanjoy Koch, who were also joined by former MLA and minister, Adolf Lu Hitler Marak.
Interestingly, the place where the meeting took place is a confluence of at least three constituencies including Rangsakona, Salmanpara and Ampati.
A second enrolment drive will take place at Mahendraganj on Saturday and is expected to see the same leaders. Newly joined as a member of the TMC, Adolf waxed eloquent about the previous government stating that during the time of Mukul Sangma, development was not hindered on party lines and everyone got their due share.
“I was in the Opposition when Mukul Sangma was the CM and I can tell you that he didn’t differentiate. My constituency was developing along with his unlike what is happening now. We need to change this government before a time comes when our children and grandchildren will abuse us even when we are in the grave,” said Adolf.
Local MLA form Salmanpara, Winnerson D Sangma accused the Conrad Sangma led government of completely ignoring his constituency owing to a lack of leadership by the NPP led MDA government.
“Look at the current situation. There is no money as the NPP led government has not been able to get finance unlike what Mukul did even against expectations, even being in Opposition to the centre,” said Winnerson.
On the situation in his own constituency, Winnerson said that projects that were almost due for completion have been left abandoned in his constituency. He also questioned why posts that are lying vacant due to retirement or deaths were not filled up as it would have helped solve the unemployment problem to an extent.
During her address to the gathering, Dikkanchi D Shira questioned the stoppage of old age pensions that had been started by the previous Congress led government. She also added the despite the assurances by the NPP led government of making education the first priority, the education scene in the state, particularly in Garo Hills, was dying. “We are the worst in education for 2 years now. This comes when the MDA government promised to prioritize education when it took over governance. Education in the state is dying,” she added.
Further she also questioned as to where all the ambulances brought (over 150 at least) during COVID have gone as she could not see any of the ‘second hand’ ambulances servicing the state.
