SHILLONG, Sep 14: After detailed examination and omission of several names, the judicial inquiry report on the killing of former leader of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Cheristerfield Thangkhiew had been made public with the tabling of the report during the ongoing Assembly session.
In the wake of the report on Che’s killing being made public, it is expected that the government will also put the inquiry report on the alleged rice scam and purported irregularities in the MeECL and the Power department in the public domain.
However, the fate of these two inquiry reports is unknown. There has been no word from the government on this matter.
On Thursday, government officials were approached by this reporter to discern whether those reports would be tabled in the session.
The officials, however, chose to ignore the query.
The Inquiry Commission on Power which was headed by Justice (retired) RN Mishra of the Allahabad High Court submitted its report to the government in March this year.
The Committee was assigned to look into records and make recommendations concerning the functioning of MeECL and its three subsidiary companies – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd (MePGCL), Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (MePTCL) and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL).
The probe covered the period from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2021.
Even the independent probe on the alleged rice scam was submitted to the government but till date, the findings of the report are yet to be made public.
