STP on roads for stern checking

SHILLONG, July 19: The Shillong Traffic Police on Wednesday intensified its checking in different part of the city to ensure road discipline.
As per the exercise, the traffic police penalised many violators for tinted glasses and even removed them from some of the vehicles.
The police have also come down heavily on two-wheelers fitted with modified silencers which emit loud sounds.
Besides imposing fine on the motorists, the police also removed the retrofit exhaust pipes.
Not only this, the police have also detained many two-wheeler riders for not wearing their helmets at night. “We will continue with the exercise even in the coming days,” a senior police official said.
It may be mentioned that the Shillong Traffic Police is conducting day and night vehicle checking at various locations for offences such as drunken driving, riding without helmet, modified silencers, tinted glasses and other Motor Vehicle Act offences.
