Shillong, August 18: The Goa Education Department has served a show cause notice to the higher secondary school’s management following an incident where 11 girl students were exposed to pepper spray. Two male students from the Bicholim school in North Goa allegedly used pepper spray on their classmates, leading to the hospitalization of the affected girls.

As per IANS, Shailesh Zingade, Director of Education, confirmed that the management has been given a three-day window to respond to the notice. Zingade highlighted the severity of such incidents in an educational environment and emphasized the need for preventive actions.

The motive behind the boys’ use of pepper spray remains unclear, although sources suggest it was done in jest.

A senior police official in Bicholim revealed that the police are investigating the matter and have requested CCTV footage from the school for their inquiry. The internal committee of the school is conducting an investigation into the incident, with plans to take action against the two boys responsible.

Reportedly, the pepper spray was acquired by the boys through an online shopping platform. While 11 girls experienced discomfort and were treated at the hospital, some have since been discharged. This incident echoes a previous occurrence at the same school, where two boys faced consequences for a similar incident.
