GUWAHATI/ IMPHAL, Aug 23: The world has taken note of India’s space programme prowess with the successful soft-landing of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar module Vikram on the Moon. Chandrayaan-3 carries with it a slice of the Northeast as five of the ISRO scientists associated with the project are from this region.
Nidhi Sharma of Tinsukia, Chayan Dutta of Lakhimpur and Y Bishal Singha of Silchar (all from Assam) and their families were feeling “over the moon”.
Both Nidhi and Chayan were members of Chandrayaan 2 and 3 missions. Bishal is a Thermal Systems Engineer with the ISRO and is from IIT Guwahati.
Strife-torn Manipur also had reasons to cheer with Noel Mathiulungbo Chawang (Tamenlong district) and Ningthoujiam Raghu Singh (Thanga, Bishnupur district) earning laurels for the state, being a part of the ISRO team.
Raghu is an alumnus of IISc Bangalore, IIT-Guwahati and DM College of Science, Imphal. (Agencies)
