32 applicants for coal mining licence

SHILLONG, Sep 23: As many as 32 parties have submitted their application for grant of prospective licence for coal mining in the state, as per the SOPs issued by the state government.
This was revealed by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in reply to a starred question which could not be taken up during the autumn session of the Assembly.
“Out of these, 17 applicants have received approval of the central government and they are now in the exploration stage for generating geological report before obtaining mining leases,” the CM stated.
Further, out of the 17 approved applications, four applicants after submitting their Geological Report, have received prior approval of the central government for mining lease in the state and presentation of the Mining Plan is completed and approval of the Mining Plans are awaited.
It was also informed that 15 applications are yet to obtain prior approval of the central government for prospecting licence.
