Man charged with murder of teen wife in UK
London, Oct 31: A 23-year-old man charged with the murder of 19-year-old Indian national Mehak Sharma found with stab wounds at a home in Croydon south London was her husband, UK police said on Tuesday. Sahil Sharma, also an Indian national and earlier misspelt as Shail Sharma by the Metropolitan Police, appeared before Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and has been remanded in custody to appear before the Old Bailey court in London on Thursday. The Met Police said Mehak’s next of kin have been informed but formal identification remains pending, before which more details of the victim’s background remain unknown. “Officers attended along with ambulance colleagues (on Sunday). A 19-year-old woman was found suffering stab injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene,” the Met Police said. “The man and woman were known to each other. At this stage, nobody else is sought in connection with the murder investigation,” the police said. Sahil was arrested at the scene at Ash Tree Way in Croydon – believed to be the couple’s residential address – on suspicion of murder on Sunday evening. He was taken to hospital as he was suffering a “minor head injury”. Police said its officers were called to a report of a deceased woman at the address and attended the scene along with London ambulance paramedics. On arrival, the woman later identified as Mehak was found suffering stab injuries and pronounced dead at the scene. (PTI)

New York, Oct 31: A Hindu temple in the US State of California has been raided by burglars who stole a donation box from the premises, leaving the Indian community in a state of shock. The incident took place on Monday at the Hari Om Radha Krishna Mandir in the Parkway neighbourhood, at about 2:15 am, the Sacramento Bee newspaper reported. The Sacramento Police Department is investigating the burglary at the Hindu Temple. Police did not disclose what was stolen, but dispatch audio indicated a donation collection box was taken. Dispatchers told people that six suspects were seen on the grounds through surveillance video, including two who were inside the temple, when police were called, the report added. (PTI)
Paris police shoot woman who allegedly made threats
Paris, Oct 31: Paris police opened fire Tuesday on a woman who allegedly made threatening remarks on a train, the latest security incident in the country that has been on heightened anti-terror alert since a fatal stabbing at a school blamed on an Islamic extremist. Police said they had no immediate information on the woman’s condition. Police said officers opened fire after she didn’t respond to their warnings. Police responded after a train passenger phoned the emergency services and reported that a woman, who was wearing a face covering, was making threats. It wasn’t clear what threats she was making. A Metro and suburban train station that serves the Francois Mitterrand national library in eastern Paris has been evacuated, police said. (AP)
