Raja’s brother demands narco tests on Sonam’s parents, others

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, June 16: Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the alleged murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, was taken to the Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (MIMHANS) here on Monday for a routine psychiatric check-up, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said.
The visit to MIMHANS was based on a recommendation outlined in a prior medical report.
As Raja’s murder mystery deepens with the revelation of new chilling truths almost every day, his family demanded the conduct of narco-analysis tests on Sonam’s family members.
Speaking to journalists during the 13th-day death ritual held in Indore, Raja’s brother Vipin Raghuvanshi expressed suspicion about the involvement of more people in the murder incident.
“We want a narco-analysis test on Sonam, her parents, her brother Govind, and sister-in-law. The entire family should be brought under the purview of the investigation,” Vipin demanded.
In a narco analysis test, a drug, called sodium pentothal, is injected into the body of an accused. The drug takes the person to a hypnotic or sedated state in which his or her imagination is neutralised. In this hypnotic state, the accused is understood as being incapable of lying and is expected to divulge information that is true.
Five people have been arrested by Meghalaya Police in connection with the murder so far. They include Sonam (25), her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha (20) and three alleged henchmen—Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—who were initially believed to be contract killers. However, investigations later revealed that the trio were friends of Kushwaha.
Reacting to two new videos of the couple and the three killers which have surfaced on social media, Vipin said the new videos hinted at deeper conspiracies and involvement of possible additional players.
“More people might be involved in my brother’s killing. We want those who posted these videos online to be questioned as well. Why did they not release these videos earlier?” he asked.
