NONGPOH, July 18: In a significant boost to rural healthcare infrastructure in Ri-Bhoi district, the Umroi Pyllun Health and Wellness Centre has received its first-ever ambulance, provided under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
This marks a major milestone, as the centre becomes the first sub-centre in the district to be equipped with such a critical emergency service.
The ambulance was officially flagged off by Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare at a function, which was attended by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Project Director Raja Brahma, Umroi Block Development Officer Dr. R. Tlang, staff members of the Health and Wellness Centre, and local ASHA workers.
Addressing the gathering, the Umroi MLA expressed gratitude for the support and noted that the introduction of the ambulance would significantly strengthen emergency medical response, especially for pregnant women and accident victims.
Stressing on the strategic importance of the centre’s location along a busy highway, Lamare said that the new facility would drastically reduce response times during emergencies.
On the other hand, health centre officials, while lauding the initiative, described it as a transformative step towards improving healthcare access and timely intervention for the rural population of the area.
