SHILLONG, Aug 7: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday announced that land acquisition for the Shillong-Silchar high-speed corridor has begun, describing it as one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Meghalaya’s history.
The Rs 22,864-crore project is the first high-speed road of its kind in a hilly region and holds national importance for Meghalaya and other agencies.
The 166.80-km road is expected to take around three to four years to complete, potentially reducing travel time, improving transport logistics, and opening new economic corridors across state borders.
