SHILLONG, Sep 17: Umroi Airport on Wednesday successfully celebrated ‘Yatri Sewa Diwas’ with a series of cultural programmes, welfare initiatives and the inauguration of new passenger-friendly facilities.
Passengers arriving at the airport were warmly welcomed with flowers and traditional hospitality. The terminal came alive with the vibrant Ka Shad Synrai folk dance performed by a local troupe, delighting travellers and showcasing Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage.
On the occasion, several new amenities were inaugurated at the airport to enhance passenger comfort, including a kids’ zone—a dedicated play space for children, a library offering books and reading material for travellers and AVSAR—an outlet enabling local artisans and craftsmen to showcase and sell their products inside the terminal.
A ‘Workstation Zone’, providing facilities for passengers who wish to continue their professional work while travelling, was also inaugurated.
In addition, the airport organised various interactive and welfare initiatives, including quiz and painting competitions for children, a free health check-up counter for travellers and taxi drivers and a blood donation camp in collaboration with local health authorities.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, Director of Umroi Airport Rajeev Ranjan said that the celebrations of Yatri Sewa Diwas reflect their commitment to placing passengers at the heart of their services.
“By combining cultural programmes, welfare initiatives and new facilities, we aim to create a travel experience that is comfortable, engaging, and rooted in the local community,” he said.
