SHILLONG: Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary has said that the matter of differences over the inter-State boundary dispute with Assam is being pursued in the right and earnest spirit by the State Government.
Despite the fact that the Assam Government had rejected the idea for constitution of the boundary commission, Mooshahary said that the State Government has also been pursuing with the Centre for constitution of the boundary commission to resolve the long pending inter-State boundary dispute as priority.
“We have also submitted a complete dossier of documents supporting our claims to the Assam Government,” the Governor said after unfurling the Tricolour during the 63rd Republic Day celebration here at Polo Ground on Thursday.
While expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Garo Hills, he said that there are certain groups who have been indulging in illegal activities of extortion, abduction, intimidation and violence thereby disrupting normal life and spreading an air of fear among the public.
“It is sad that these things are happening in spite of the concerted efforts on the part of the government,” Mooshahary said, adding, “This nefarious game needs to be stopped as the public needs to be educated about the potential harm it can cause to the socio-political fabric of our State.”
The Governor, however, expressed satisfaction with the overall law and order situation in the State.
While lauding the Government for the improved law and order situation, Mooshahary said, “This is commendable and due credit must be given to the law and order machinery of the government as well as the people of the State.”
With the launching of the Right To Education, he said that the State is also committed to successfully implement the Act while adding that necessary steps have been taken to create requisite infrastructure for the purpose.
Highlighting the various initiatives and programmes of the Government, Mooshahary urged upon the people to contribute towards building a just, harmonious and equitable society.
On the occasion of the nation’s 63rd Republic Day celebration, three women from different fields were honoured for their contributions to the State. They are S Sweety Diengdoh, former Shillong Doordarshan Kendra director, who was awarded the U Tirot Sing Award for Arts & Literature, Sister Rose Kayathinkara of the Medical Mission Sisters from Mendipathar who won the Pa Togan N Sangma Award for Social Service and boxer Roshni Bhusal who was presented the U Kiang Ningbah Award for excellence in Sports.
On the occasion tableaux of various Government departments were also displayed. The tableaux of the District Commerce and Industries, Centre, Shillong was awarded the first prize. The second prize was jointly shared by the District Agriculture and Horticulture Office while the third prize was bagged by the Health department.
