NONGPOH: Underlining the need of the Central government’s intervention in resolving the long pending boundary dispute between Assam and Meghalaya, People’s Movement leader Ardent Basiawmoit on Tuesday asked the Assam Government to stop all forms of atrocities and harassment on the people residing in the border Speaking at a public rally at Mawlasnai football ground, Basiawmoit, Nongkrem MLA, demanded that the State government should initiate developmental works in the border area.

Stating that he has no intention to form any political party, the former FKGJP leader said, “There is no politics behind People’s Movement as alleged by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.”

In his speech, former KSU general secretary Hamlet Dohling said, “If the Government of India wants Meghalaya to be part of India then it should solve the border dispute as we have lost faith in Assam Government.”

Syiem of Raid Nongtung Miwell Shadap informed that he has land documents registered on 23rd September, 1961 showing that the land under Raid Nongtung belonged to Raid Nongtung and not Assam as claimed by the bordering state.
