Mukherjee to assume office tomorrow

New Delhi: President-elect Pranab Mukherjee will assume office on Wednesday.

The ceremony of assumption of office by the President-elect will be held at 11:30 am in the Central Hall of Parliament House, a Home Ministry release said.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Chief Justice of India SH Kapadia, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Members of Council of Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, MPs and other officials will atttend the ceremony.

After Mukherjee takes the oath of office in the presence of the CJI, a 21-gun salute will be fired.

The President will then deliver an address and leave for Rashtrapati Bhavan where an inter-services guard of honour will be presented to him in the forecourt and courtesies will be extended to the outgoing President. (UNI)
