64th Republic Day celebrated in the State

 Shillong: Along with the rest of the country, Meghalaya too celebrated its 64th Republic Day with pomp and gaiety in all its District Headquarters, Civil Sub-Divisions and Administrative Units of the State.

At Shillong, the Governor of Meghalaya, RS Mooshahary unfurled the National Flag at Polo Grounds and took the salute at an impressive march past of nine contingents which included the State Police, Assam Regiment, BSF, CRPF, Home Guards, NCC boys and girls, Scouts and Guides.

At Tura, Project Director DRDA, Ambrose Ch Marak unfurled the Tri-Color and took the Rashtriya Salute marking the beginning of the daylong celebration. During the day 10 contingents from the state police, Home Guards, Scouts and Guides from various schools performed the march past followed by a tableau presentation by the various government departments. The daylong celebration was marked by a cultural programme, tug of war and sports for children.

The Chief Guest later distributed prizes to winners of the tableau presentation and the cultural programme.

At Jowai, Deputy Commissioner West Jaintia Hills District, PS Dkhar unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of an impressive march past of 20 contingents comprising of the Meghalaya Police and students at a function held at Jrisalien playground.

Other highlights of the celebration included presentation of tableau by different government departments of the district, cultural programmes and sports and game.

At Nongpoh, the celebration was held at the NSCA Mini Stadium Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh. Akash Deep, Deputy Commissioner unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of an impressive march past of 10 contingents including the Police and students from different schools. Other highlights of the day included sports and games for children and tug of war between the male officers and teachers of the District.

At Baghmara, CT Gotmare, Deputy Commissioner, South Garo Hills unfurled the National Tri-Colour at the Government Higher Secondary School playground, Baghmara and took the salute of the 7 contingents presented by the Meghalaya Police and Scouts and Guides. Nirmal Gram Puraskar Award was also given to Onajora village and the District Award was presented to the best Aganwadi workers. The celebration also included presentation of tableau by three departments, sports and games for children followed by the cultural programme.

At Williamnagar, Deputy Commissioner East Garo Hills Vijay Kr Mantri unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of 24 marching contingents comprising of the police and students at a function held at Rongrenggre Higher Secondary playground.

Other highlights of the day included presentation of tableau by 6 government department, sports, cultural programmes, patriotic songs and dances which were presented by school students.

At Nongstoin, S Kharlyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner West Khasi Hills unfurled the Tri-Colour to the tune of the National Anthem and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 14 parade contingents which included the police, NCC and school students at a function held at St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School playground, Nongstoin.

Other highlights of the day included tableau presentation by nine government departments followed by cultural programme, men’s final Basket Ball, distribution of food packages to patients of Civil Hospital and TB Hospital, Nongstoin, Green Pastures Orphanage, Pyndengrei, St. Peter’s Orphanage and S Wollington Children Home, Nongpyndeng.

At Resubelpara, North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, W Khyllep unfurled the National flag and took the Rashtriya salute of March past comprising of 7 contingents at a function held at the Mini Stadium, Resubelpara. Tableaus were presented by 6 government departments followed by a cultural programme, karate and taekwondo demonstration, tug of war between the government servants and the public.

At Khliehriat, celebration was held at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School wherein A Bhagotia, Deputy Commissioner East Jaintia Hills unfurled the Tri-Colour and took the Salute to the parade comprising 8 contingents of police and school students. Others highlight included tableau presentation by 15 government departments, cultural programme and sports and game.

At Mawkyrwat, The Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District , A Mawlong unfurled the Tri-Colour to the tune of National Anthem and took the Rashtriya salute at the impressive march past of 11 parade contingents comprising of the police force, NCC and school children at Maharam Government Secondary School Playground.

Other highlights of the day included tableau presentation by different departments, cultural programmes, distribution of food items to patients in CHC Mawkyrwat, sports and games for children, exhibition, cricket match between DC XI versus Teachers XI.

At Ampati, Deputy Commissioner South West Garo Hills, Ram Singh unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of the four parade contingents at Ampati student field. Other highlights of the day included cultural programmes and sports and games for children.

At Sohra Civil Sub Division, SDO Civil Sohra Civil Sub-Division, CVD Diengdoh unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of the marching contingents at a function held at Sohra stadium, Saitsohpen, Sohra.

Cultural programmes, sports and games were the other highlight of the day. Gifts Packets were also distributed to the patients of NRHM Hospital and St. John’s Orphanage, Maraikaphon, Sohra.

At Mairang Civil Sub Division, celebration was held at Khatsawphra Sports Association Ground, Mairang where the ADC, incharge SDO Civil Sub-Division Mairang B Mawlong unfurled the Tri-Color and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 6 marching contingents comprising the Meghalaya Police and school students. Tableau and cultural programmes were also presented on the day.

At Amlarem Civil Sub Division, NAK Syiem, SDO Civil unfurled the National Flag at Amlarem LP School playground and took the salute of the five march past contingents which included the Meghalaya Police and school students of the Sub Division.

At Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Diki D Shira, ADC incharge Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division unfurled the National Flag at Dadenggre playground and took the salute of the 6 marching contingents including the 2nd Battalion Goeragre that participated in the march past. The day event rounded up with cultural programs along with sweet distribution for children, sports for children and football exhibition match.

At Patharkhmah Administrative Unit, George K Marboh, EAC In-charge Patharkhmah Administrative Unit unfurled the National Flag and took salute of the march past contingents of police and school students held at Patharkhmah Mini Stadium.

At Mawshynrut Administrative Unit, the celebration was held at Riangdo Playground whereby DD Sangma, BDO Mawshynrut unfurled the National Flag and took salute before the parade contingent consisting of police and school students. Other highlights of the day included cultural items, prize distribution and distribution of gifts to the differently able persons.
