Mukul takes oath as 26th CM

SHILLONG: Dr Mukul Sangma was sworn in as the 26th Chief Minister of the State by Governor RS Mooshahary at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

Dr Sangma was sworn in alone while his Cabinet colleagues are likely to be sworn-in next week.

“I would be going to Delhi after the oath taking ceremony of the 60 newly elected legislators to get approval of the list of the Cabinet Ministers from AICC president Sonia Gandhi,” the Chief Minister told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony.

Dr Sangma also indicated that he would give due representation to the women legislators in the Cabinet.

Stating that all four women legislators are from the Congress, he said other political parties should learn from the Congress in promoting its women leaders in the party.

He also indicated that the swearing-in ceremony of the Cabinet Ministers would take place in the early part of next week after the return of Governor RS Mooshahary who would be out of the State from some days.

Meanwhile, sources informed that all the sitting Cabinet Ministers are likely to be retained including Rowell Lyngdoh, Prof RC Laloo, AL Hek, Ampareen Lyngdoh, HDR Lyngdoh and Prestone Tynsong.

Sources also revealed that AT Mondal, who was a Cabinet Minister, is being tipped as the new Assembly Speaker.

Meanwhile, sources said that the other names who are likely to get the Cabinet Berth are Deborah C Marak, Zenith M Sangma, Sniawbhalang Dhar or Comingone Ymbon, Martin M Danggo and Clement C Marak.
