Rock climbing programme sees good turnout

SHILLONG: The office of the District Sports Officer, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai , in collaboration with Arcadian Nature Sports Guild organised the “Year of the Youth” Programme, Adventure Sports – Rock climbing on April 5 in Shangpung, West Jaintia Hills District.

According to a press release from the DSO’s office, the adventure sports programme was a success, with 56 participants in all – 34 male and 22 female.

Those who took part were from a wide age group, including four 10-year-olds.

Three activities were conducted – rock climbing, river crossing and rappelling (also known as abseiling, where climbers make a controlled descent using a rope).

Wallambok Lyngdoh, from the Meghalaya Rock Climbing and Mountaineering Association was the chief instructor.

The chief guest for the day was the Rangbah Shnong of Shangpung, B Shylla.

Also present was the District Sports Officer, H Shangpliang, West Jaintia Hills District and E Khongngain, the President of Arcadian Nature Sports Guild.
