The simple act of negligence by young children caused a major inferno in Umden market on Saturday afternoon. According to police, altogether 156 shops were gutted by the devastating fire at Umden market. On receipt of information, fire tenders rushed to the spot however as the shops were wooden structures, the fire engulfed the entire market within the blink of an eye. Another matter of concern was that in Nongpoh fire substation there are only 3 fire tenders thus despite all out sincere effort by the firemen they took time to douse the flame. Police said that, the total damage of the fire was total Rs. 15 lakh and there is no loss of life and injuries. (ST)
