SHILLONG: Gerald Pde, an amateur long distance runner originally from Shillong, was one of the thousands of people who took part in the ill-fated Boston Marathon on Monday, which was the scene of the twin bomb blasts that left three dead and over 140 injured.

A phone call to his home in Shillong on Tuesday evening revealed that Pde had already completed the race before the blasts occurred and was unharmed.

The 39-year-old has participated in several marathons and half marathons. One of his personal goals for this year’s Boston race was to help raise funds to sponsor underprivileged runners from Meghalaya to take part in the Delhi Half Marathon in September this year.
