101 Area win Eastern Command boxing championship

BoxingSHILLONG: Pugilists from 101 Area won the Eastern Command Boxing Championship, organised by 58 GTC from May 12-17.
Twelve teams from the Eastern Command took part in the championship.
101 Area emerged victorious by winning the finals of six weight categories, bagging a total of 42 points.
Thirty-nine boxers have been shortlisted for a coaching camp to be held at 58 GTC, the Eastern Command boxing node.
The 50-day camp will be a prelude to the Army Boxing Championship, to be held in Bangalore in July.
Naik Tilak Budha of 101 Area in the light welter weight category (60-64kg) was adjudged Best Boxer, while Havaldar Sukhvinder Singh of 71 Infantry Division was named Best Loser.
Among several events as part of the closing ceremony, 11 and 12-year-olds from the Boys Sports Company took part in exhibition bouts.
Lt Gen RS Panwar, SM, VSM, GOC 101 Area, distributed the prizes to the winners and the runners-up.
A large gathering of army officers, soldiers and families attended the closing ceremony.
