Six militants in police net

SHILLONG/TURA: Six cadres of two suspected militant organizations were arrested from Shillong and Tura during the past two days.

While three cadres of Achik National United Front (ANUF) including a self styled commander were arrested by Shillong police from near Lady Keane on Wednesday, Tura police arrested three persons from Chandmari locality of Tura on Tuesday afternoon for their alleged involvement with the United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) in an extortion racket.

Police said that based on intelligence

) inputs on the presence of members of ANUF in Shillong city, special teams were put in place to put surveillance on suspicious places and persons.

According to police, three persons including the commander of ANUF were picked up from a place near Lady Keane.

Though they tried to flee, police intercepted the commander identified as Cornelious N Sangma,(27) of Garopara Nongjuli, Goalpara, Assam and other cadres Debojit K Marak,(20) and Sengkhan K Marak,both from Adokgre, Waramja, North Garo Hills,

Later, a house search was conducted at their place of stay at Lumparing, Shillong.

As far as Tura case is concerned, the three suspects are Jeibin Sangma (22) of Dudhnoi, Suresh Sangma (24) of Nongpoh and Silrak Marak (22) of Chitoktak locality of the town. Police informed that a sum of fifty-four thousand rupees was seized from their possession.
