Curfew lifted in Rangapara

Tezpur (Assam): Sonitpur administration on Tuesday lifted the indefinite curfew clamped in Rangapara town on Monday following a clash between police and protestors. Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Lalit Gogoi told PTI that the situation at Rangapara and its adjoining areas was normal and the curfew was lifted from 10 am on Tuesday. (PTI)

NDFB(S) militant killed

Guwahati : Security forces gunned down a militant of National Democratic Force of Boroland’s Songbijit faction (NDFB-S) in an encounter in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, a defence spokesman said on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and army personnel from Panbari army camp launched an operation in the dense jungles of Phuljhora in the district last night and in the ensuing encounter the militant was killed. The slain militant was identified as B K Geremsha. He was reportedly involved in a number of terrorist activities in Parbatjhora and Gossaigaon sub divisions of the district. An AK-56 rifle, two magazines, 67 live rounds and magazine pouches were recovered from him, the spokesman added. According to the intelligence reports, the outfit had plans to target security forces and minority communities in the area in the run up to Independence Day. (PTI)
