Madanryting defeat Tornado in  SCA First Division League

SHILLONG: Madanryting SC defeated Tornado SC by a huge margin of 129 runs in the league encounter of the First Division Shillong Cricket League 2015 organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo, on Thursday.Madanryting won the toss and elected to bat first. Shanborlang Kharmawphlang scored a superb maiden century of 121 runs in 91 balls with 16 fours and two sixes while Santosh Rawat scored 75 runs in 64 balls to power Madanryting to a huge total of 303-6 in the alloted 35 overs. Robin Barua and Joy Sarkar took 2 wickets apiece for Tornado.In reply Tornado SC could manage to reach a score of 174 runs in 33.4 overs losing all their wickets. Top scorer Bappan Deb managed 37 runs in 58 balls while Pranatosh Dey chipped in with 28 runs in 45 balls. Shanbor Kharbuli and Anup Ale claim 2 wickets each for Madanryting. On Friday New Friends Union (NFU) will take on Nongthymmai CC in the Super Division League.

Ranji: Wins for Rajasthan, Baroda, M’rashtra, Andhra, Hyderabad

New Delhi: Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Baroda, Andhra and Hyderabad registered victories in the Ranji Trophy encounters on Thursday. Rajasthan beat Punjab by nine wickets, thanks to pacers Pankaj Singh (four for 57) and Aniket Choudhary (four for 52), who helped the hosts dismiss the visitors for 247 in the second innings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Rajasthan lost opener Pranay Sharma (33) before Vineet Saxena (not out 27) and Robin Bist (not out 22) easily chased down the 89-run target. At the Akhilesh Das Stadium in Lucknow, Baroda thrashed Uttar Pradesh as spinner Swapnil Singh (six for 91) helped the visitors bowl the hosts out for 307. Baroda openers didn’t find any problem in chasing the 33-run target. Maharashtra annihilated Saurashtra by an innings and 48 runs in Rajkot. Spinner Akshay Darekar took seven for 72 as the hosts were bowled out for 198 in the second innings. They scored 273 in the first innings in reply to Maharashtra’s mammoth first innings score of 519. At the Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium in Agartala, Hyderabad beat Tripura by nine wickets, while Andhra defeated Jharkhand by nine wickets at the PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex in Vizianagaram. Bangladesh cricketer Rubel in jail after bail plea turned down

Dhaka: A Dhaka court has sent Bangladesh cricketer Rubel Hossain to jail after rejecting his bail plea in a breach of promise case under the Women’s Repression Act filed by Bengali starlet Naznin Akter Happy. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate issued the order after almost an hour-long hearing on Thursday, reports bdnews24.com. Rubel, who is in the Bangladesh squad for the forthcoming World Cup, surrendered in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court and appealed for bail on Thursday morning – three days before his anticipatory bail was to expire. Happy filed a case against Rubel under the Women’s Repression Act on Dec 13, last year, alleging that the pacer backed off from his promise of marriage after nine months of an intimate relationship. Trinidad keeper Pooran sustains grave injuries in road accident

Trinidad & Tobago: Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) wicket-keeper batsman Nicolas Pooran has suffered grave injuries in a road accident and has been operated upon in a hospital. The 19-year-old was subsequently dropped from the T&T squad for the upcoming Super50 regional tournament reports espncricinfo.com. T&T Cricket Board operations officer Dudnath Ramkessoon said the injury was grave and he would not be available for the Super50’s which start on Jan 15. “He seriously hurt his ankle and knee of his left leg in the accident and unfortunately would not be able to play in the Super 50 which gets underway on January 15. We wish him a speedy recovery so he can be back to fitness,” said Ramkessoon on Wednesday. (IANS)
